Claude Lévêque // Detour
leveque-nouvelle-image

Born (1953) and lives in France. Recent solo exhibitions: Yvon Lambert Gallery, Paris (2006), Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2006), Palazzo Farnese, Rome (2007), Kamel Mennour Gallery, Paris (2008); recent group exhibitions: Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon (2007), Musée d'Orsay, Paris (2008).

Dé viation (2008), which resembles a corrugated iron fortress, is an assemblage of gray motor hoods collected in scrap metal yards. Massive and brutal, this structure looks like an improbable ballroom. Two apertures in its corners enable the viewer to discern innumberable scintillating chandelier drops. In this work, Lévêque plays on the contrasts between different media and symbols. The site he has invented is pervaded, once again, with everyday violence and the atmosphere of a lost paradise.
