In the series Druksland (1974-75), which is concerned with mapping, the language of cartography serves to contain both the body and a geographical territory within a framework that rescues them from the trap of abstraction. Michael Druks developed his “geographical” technique in order to create a universally understandable visual sign language. As an avant-garde artist, Druks focuses on borders, outlines and their social and political implications. In his own words, “My main theme is the conflict between individual and society.”
